The Department of Theatre Arts offers a diversified undergraduate program in theatre, with concentrations in both performance and production, leading to the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degrees. The academic program is structured with a comprehensive curriculum in theatre studies, supported by an extensive production program that is varied and challenging.
The Department also offers a minor in Theatre. In addition, many Theatre students double-major or minor in other disciplines within the university and the Theatre program is particularly well-suited for this individualized type of study, so there are many options available.
Major Course Requirements
Under our current catalog, students pursuing the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in Theatre Arts must complete a total of 36 semester hours of theatre study in addition to the General Education requirements. Of these courses, 15 semester hours are at the Junior or Senior level plus 6 hours of electives that can be advanced courses. Majors are required to maintain a 2.5 grade point average in theatre courses. The course requirements for the Theatre Arts major are detailed in the table below.

Additionally students are required to complete at least 62 credit hours outside of the major. The 62 hours include the general education requirements, courses used to complete the foreign language requirement, other university requirements, a second major or minor outside the department, and elective courses outside the department.
Students may select a concentration in performance or production. Completion of a concentration is optional.
Performance Concentration
The Performance Concentration offers students who desire a more intensive educational experience in Acting and Directing an opportunity for focused study in these areas.
All students desiring to pursue a concentration in Performance are required to complete an entrance audition prior to admission in the concentration.
Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Degree in Theatre Arts with a Concentration in Performance must complete a total of 45 semester hours of theatre study in addition to the university's general education requirement. Of these courses, 36 are required of the Theatre Arts Major. The concentration consists of 9 credit hours of course work selected by the student with their advisor's approval from a list of performance electives. Those courses are detailed in the table below.

Of the 9 hours required for the performance concentration students have 4 lower division and 5 upper division courses from which to choose. Prerequisites can limit the number of upper division courses available to the students given the 9 hours minimum required.
Production Concentration
The Production Concentration offers students who desire a more intensive educational experience in Design and Technical Theatre an opportunity for focused study in these areas.
All students desiring to pursue a concentration in Production are required to present their design/theatre technology portfolio prior to admission in the concentration
